Dear Shattered Cast Crew,

 

Are any of you interested in the upcoming Soul of Chogokin Voltron set? I usually stick to  Transformers, but that SOC Voltron has caught my eye. I have no clue where I will put it, but it looks like it could look good incorporated into my MP display. Regardless, this may be the definitive Voltron I have been waiting for and I don't want to miss out on it. I know it falls outside the realm of Transformers, but I would love to hear your thoughts on this one. Is there any love for Voltron with the SCU guys?

1. Would you buy kits to turn Titans Return Blurr, Hot Rod, Kup, and other Targetmasters to give them normal heads and Targetmaster partners?
2. With the TFCC closing this month, what was their best exclusive figure and what was their worst?
3. What was the best upsized KO of 2016?

Paul Chiu:

1. Is a subgroup a blessing or a curse? As a completionist, I can't decide. In theory, it gives you a nice end point ("I just need the 4 main Ninja Turtles and that's it.", but it also locks you in right from the start.When the TR line was announced, I was immediately in for at least the first 7 G1 Headmasters. When MMC announced the DJD, I was pumped, but when I got Vos, that locked me in for all of them. Now they keep getting more and more expensive, but I committed to them from day one. I'm definitely happy, but I'd like to hear all of your thoughts.
2. Articulation is one of the biggest selling pieces of a toy now. All reviewers go over it and all potential customers want to know if a toy can hold a badass pose on your shelf. My question: For your display, do you use action poses or static poses? If you use action poses, when you run out of display space, do you get more shelves, or do you change their poses so that they take up the least amount of space?

Question for the crew: Would you like to see a Transformers line focused towards collectors akin to the Star Wars Black Series? Higher quality engineering that is more in line with early Generations/Reveal the Shield toys, better paint apps, and production standards. Higher priced than mainline figures, but not MP scale or prices. Maybe $30-$40 for a deluxe.

So whats up guys. I have been listening to your show. For a long time now. I really enjoy it. Just wanted to ask if any of you would ever consider doing a restart of your collection is if Takara and Third party started doing larger scale figures. Toy World has had me thinking about this lately. Just wanted your opinions. Thanks for entertaining me you talented MoFo!

What do toy companies have to do to get people back on board with toys (specifically transformers)? More & more people who buy toys are adults while kids play iPad/etc. do toy companies go all in and become collector oriented matching 3p levels of characters & quality?

I personally don't think maintaining the status quo of having a kids line and a "meh"

collectors lines will sustain these companies in say the next 10yrs.One could say Lines such as MOTU, Titans Return, and Marvel Legends are for kids with fan winks to collectors but when is that not going to be enough to keep buying?

(You don't have to put my opinion)My thoughts are Hasbro/Mattel continue with a kids line ranged up into age 10 then go complete collector base with anything else. I think they're spending too much time trying to please everyone with the middle tier of the properties. Because at about 10ish kids are done with toys for the most part these days.

Abandon - Chug, TR, CW type toys

Focus on a complete - MP like line.

Marvel

Keep the simple 5pt articulated heroes/villains for kids

Put more money into legends

Daniel McClung Ok, a real question. We all know that most companies have their preferences to the transformers genre (like Fans toys and Ocular Max to G1, Planet X to fall of Cybertron, etc.). What company would each of you like to see switch and to what?

Josh Lewis What is the root of your passion when it comes to the glory of Transformers. For me it is the result of some happy feels as a wee tot. I needed an escape as a youngling and this particular bit of fantasy fit the prescription.
